Circuit Theory #25 | Thevenin/Norton with Independent Sources - Find Power in 4 Ohm
Thevenin Equivalent CircuitsInstructor: Dr. Süleyman Burak ÇELİK
Twenty-fifth lesson in the Circuit Theory series. This lesson applies Thevenin's theorem to a circuit with only independent sources. The goal is to find the power absorbed by the 4 ohm resistor between terminals a and b. Worked example: - Remove the 4 ohm load between `a-b` - Find `Rth = 10 ohm` - Solve the open-circuit node voltages: `Va = 4 V`, `Vb = 18 V` - Compute `Vth = Vab = -14 V` - Reconnect the load: `i_4ohm = -1 A` - Absorbed power: `P_4ohm = 4 W` Main ideas: - Treat the requested resistor as the load - Turn off independent sources to find `Rth` - Keep the terminal voltage reference consistent - A negative load current only means the real direction is opposite to the chosen reference - Absorbed power is positive because it uses `i^2 R` #CircuitTheory #Thevenin #Norton #CircuitAnalysis #EquivalentCircuit #ElectricalEngineering #AcEdumy Also available on AcEdumy.com without ads.
